- Rehab website not on Google
Why is my rehab website not showing on Google? 7 checks
If your treatment center site does not appear when you search for it, work through these checks in order. Most cases come down to one setting that can be fixed in minutes.
1. Search for your own address
Type the exact page address into Google. If nothing comes back, the page may not be indexed. A new site can also simply need more time.
2. Open the Search Console indexing report
Add your site to Google Search Console and open the page indexing report. It lists pages as indexed or not, with a reason such as “Excluded by noindex tag” or “Discovered, currently not indexed”.
3. Look for a noindex tag
A noindex tag tells Google not to list a page. It is often left on after a redesign or staging launch. In WordPress, also check Settings, Reading, and make sure “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” is off.
4. Read your robots.txt
Open yoursite.com/robots.txt. A line that says Disallow: / under User-agent: * blocks the whole site from crawlers.
5. Check the canonical tag
The canonical tag should point to the page itself. If it points to another address, Google may ignore your page.
6. Submit and check your sitemap
Submit your XML sitemap in Search Console and confirm it lists the pages you want found, and not pages you do not.
7. Make each page worth listing
Thin or near-duplicate location and service pages are often not indexed. Give each page its own useful, accurate content.
